Curses can really add a lot of fun and magic to your Dungeons & Dragons games. Of course, your characters could be cursed by a werewolf or a vampire or other campaign altering magics, but sometimes you just want something flavorful that doesn't change everything for the party. Here are 20 curses that you can put into your game today!
1. Curse of Never Ending Foes - Every time the party kills someone, a creature they killed in the past is resurrected.
2. Curse of the Hiccups - There is 20% chance each round that the hiccups will give you disadvantage on anything you try to do.
3. Curse of the Fighter's Hammer - This hammer allows you to attack your enemies as if you were a fighter of the same level (including action surges), but over time, you become a fighter instead of your normal class.
4. Curse of the Undead Blade - This sword is a +3 weapon that uses necrotic energy to steal life from your enemies and give it to you as healing. Once you heal 100 hit points of life force, you become undead.
5. Curse of the Cute Puppy - The party finds a cute puppy.
6. Curse of the Wet Fart - Every fart is a wet fart.
7. Curse of the Tongue - You are always aware of where your tongue is, but you still bite it every meal.
8. Curse of Tiredness - You are always tired during the day, but when it is time to sleep, you are no longer tired. You have a constant level of exhaustion during the day, but it goes away when the party is taking a long rest.
9. Curse of the Coin of Yonder Death - Once you get this coin, you will die in one hour unless you give it to someone else.
10. Curse of Vengeful Turds - Every time you poop, your turds will come alive and attack you.
11. Curse of the Song of the Dead - Every time you try to go to sleep, you hear a lullaby sung by all the creatures you have killed.
12. Curse of Loud Stomach Rumbles - Even if you aren't hungry, your stomach rumbles loudly at the worst possible times. You have disadvantage on all stealth checks that require silence.
13. Curse of Many Voices - You can't seem to speak with a constant voice. Your accent changes every sentence and the other characters can't recognize your voice. (Make sure to give this one to a player who would love doing this)
14. Curse of Grasshoppers - Everywhere you go, you are followed by grasshoppers. They do not attack you but they jump around distracting you and anyone within five feet of you. You get disadvantage on anything you have to concentrate to do like shooting a bow or casting a spell.
15. Curse of the Sword of Criticism - This is an epic magical sword, but it criticizes you on every attack telling you what you could have done better and how you need to practice more if you want to get really good.
16. Curse of Reflections - Every time you look in a mirror, you see yourself as an old version of yourself and you look really scared. Sometimes the old reflection talks to you and says things like “Run!” or “Duck!”
17. Curse of Surges - You have the ability to action surge any time you want to, but if you do it, you must then sit out the next two rounds catching your breath and all attacks against you are made with advantage. Hope you pick the right time to surge!
18. Curse of the Burning Heart - For one hour after you eat, you have horrible heartburn. You can live with it but it makes you grumpy.
19. Curse of Reversed Smells - Your sense of smell is messed up. Everything that normally smells good, stinks horribly to you, and everything that normally stinks, smells good.
20. Curse of the Words of Vecna - Every time you speak, you end it with the words, “So sayeth Vecna, the Whispered One.”
